Description

I have fallen in love with this target and its simple beauty. It definitely requires more integration time to do it justice and so I think it will become my first multi-year project. Unfortunately, I no longer have astronomical darkness to capture the Oiii, so I intend to make sure that I start working on it as soon as it is possible next year. At 1.3 light years across, it is said to be one of the most perfectly spherical and largest spheres to be found in the night sky. I captured the RGB subs used for the stars during twilight and Oiii used for the Nebula during the short period of Astro darkness available to me. Once the RGB were combined and colour calibrated, it was possible to see the nebulosity in broadband, although very faintly. However, this was enough to see that the Nebula itself is actually a rich teal colour and not the vivid blue that this target is so often portrayed with. I did my best to retain that original teal colour in my image, although naturally it had to be a little lighter and brighter.
